Metallica have not announced any concerts in Europe for 2027. As of 6 October 2026 their 2027 calendar is entirely North American: a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, Life Burns Faster, with twelve shows from 28 January to 13 March 2027, followed by M72 stadium dates from BC Place in Vancouver on 8 May to Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on 19 June 2027, where the M72 World Tour is due to end.
Europe has just had its turn. The 2026 European leg of the M72 World Tour played stadiums from May to July 2026, including two nights at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt on 22 and 24 May, the Olympiastadion in Berlin on 30 May, the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara in Bologna on 3 June and two nights at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on 19 and 21 June, as well as Athens, Bucharest, Chorzów, Zurich and Budapest.
This page sets out what is and is not known about Metallica in 2027 and gives a detailed account of the band's concerts in continental Europe and Ireland, from the Seven Dates of Hell in 1984 to the M72 stadium nights of 2023, 2024 and 2026, with the festivals, venues and set lists that define their European history.
There are no Metallica concerts in Europe on the 2027 schedule. The band's announced dates for that year are the Sphere residency in Las Vegas (28 and 30 January; 4, 6, 18, 20, 25 and 27 February; 4, 6, 11 and 13 March 2027) and a North American stadium run in May and June 2027 that visits Vancouver, San Diego, El Paso, San Antonio, Fayetteville, Kansas City, Raleigh, Indianapolis, Buffalo, Madison, Cleveland and Salt Lake City.
According to Wikipedia, the M72 World Tour, which began at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam on 27 April 2023, is set to conclude in Salt Lake City on 19 June 2027. Its European part was played in three legs: 2023, 2024 and 2026. No fourth European leg has been announced.
What comes after the tour has not been announced either. Kirk Hammett said in March 2025 that he did not expect work on the next album to start for at least another year 'because we're still finishing the tour', and Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield have both spoken about new riffs and ideas. A new album would traditionally be followed by a new world tour, but no plan or date has been published.
Any '2027 Metallica Europe tour' list of dates, presale code or ticket listing seen now is therefore not official. The alert on this page will tell you when the band confirms new European shows.
Metallica's European story started early. In February 1984 the band made its first major European tour with Tank, billed as the Seven Dates of Hell, to an average crowd of about 1,300; the archive has the Teatro Tenda Lampugnano in Milan on 5 February and the Aardschok festival at the IJsselhallen in Zwolle on 11 February 1984. Ride the Lightning was recorded that spring at Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, the home city of drummer Lars Ulrich, and by November 1984 the band was back in Milan and at the Grote Zaal in Amsterdam.
The Damage, Inc. Tour of 1986 brought tragedy. On 27 September 1986, during the European leg, the band's bus skidded and overturned near Dörarp in Sweden, and bassist Cliff Burton was killed. Two weeks earlier the archive has the SFX Hall in Dublin on 14 September 1986. The band rescheduled the European dates with new bassist Jason Newsted and returned in January and February 1987: the Palau dels Esports in Barcelona, Madrid, the PalaTrussardi in Milan, Strasbourg, Clermont-Ferrand, Le Zénith in Paris on 5 February and the IJsselhallen in Zwolle.
The …And Justice for All tour of 1988 took them to the bullring in Pamplona, the Plaza de Toros Monumental in Barcelona, Padua, Milan, Toulon, Montpellier, two nights at the Top Hat Ballroom in Dublin and Le Zénith in Paris. After the Black Album of 1991, they headlined the Monsters of Rock tour in August and September 1991 (Hasselt, Nijmegen, Modena, the Hippodrome de Vincennes in Paris, Barcelona's Olympic stadium), and that September played the first open-air rock concert in the Soviet Union, at the Monsters of Rock show in Moscow. The Wherever We May Roam arena tour followed in late 1992, from Ghent and the Point Theatre in Dublin to two nights at Rotterdam Ahoy, Bercy in Paris, the Palau Sant Jordi, Anoeta in San Sebastián, Marino near Rome, Milan and 's-Hertogenbosch.
Stadiums and festivals defined the next decade: the Nowhere Else to Roam summer of 1993 (Feyenoord in Rotterdam, Vincennes, the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, Madrid, the Stadio delle Alpi in Turin, Torhout and Werchter), the Load tour of 1996 (two nights at Bercy, Anoeta, Lisbon's Restelo, Madrid, the Palau Sant Jordi, Rome, Assago, Turin, Milan, Marseille, Lyon and the Point Theatre), and the Garage Remains the Same summer of 1999, with the Waldbühne in Berlin, Werchter, Dublin, Bercy and Belfort. On 19 November 1999 they played the Velodrom in Berlin with an orchestra, the S&M concert.
After St. Anger, the band played three small Paris clubs in a single night, 11 June 2003 (La Boule Noire, Le Trabendo and the Bataclan), then toured arenas in December 2003 and stadiums in June 2004: Gelsenkirchen, Munich's Olympiastadion, Bremen, Zaragoza, the ArenA in Amsterdam, the Parc des Princes in Paris on 23 June 2004 and Dublin's RDS Arena. The Escape From the Studio and Sick of the Studio summers of 2006 and 2007 included Rock am Ring, Berlin, Arnhem, Dublin, Imola, Lisbon and Bilbao.
Death Magnetic (2008) brought the World Magnetic Tour: the Sportpaleis in Antwerp, Ahoy, two nights at Bercy, Munich, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Oberhausen, Cologne, Assago, Rome, Nîmes's Roman arena, Barcelona's Parc del Fòrum, two nights in Madrid and Marlay Park in Dublin on 1 August 2009, with Lisbon and Lyon in 2010. On 16 June 2010 Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax shared a bill for the first time, at Warsaw's Babice airport for Sonisphere.
The 2010s alternated festival summers with arena tours. The European Black Album Tour of 2012 played the album in full at the Stade de France, Udine, Lisbon, Getafe, Werchter, Nuremberg and the Nürburgring; Metallica By Request in 2014 let fans vote for the set; the WorldWired Tour played arenas in 2017 and 2018 (two nights each at the Ziggo Dome, the AccorHotels Arena, the Lanxess Arena, the Sportpaleis, the WiZink Center, the Unipol Arena and the Schleyerhalle) and stadiums in 2019, from Lisbon's Restelo and Slane Castle in Ireland to Berlin and Munich.
The M72 World Tour opened in Amsterdam on 27 April 2023 and its European dates ran in three legs. In 2023: Amsterdam, the Stade de France, Hamburg and Gothenburg's Ullevi. In 2024: Munich, Milan, Ebreichsdorf in Austria, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Oslo, Hellfest in Clisson, Warsaw and Madrid's Metropolitano on 12 and 14 July 2024. In 2026: Athens, Bucharest, Chorzów, Frankfurt, Zurich, Berlin, Bologna, Budapest and Dublin, before the leg ended in the UK in early July 2026.
The table below lists 229 documented European concerts by Metallica between 1984 and 2026, with the most shows in Paris (17), Madrid (13), Dublin (12), Barcelona (10), Lisbon (10), Milan (8). It is not exhaustive: it only includes documented shows.

Across the 15 most recent documented European concerts with a full song list (19 May 2023 to 21 June 2026), these are the songs that came up most often. Titles only — set lists change from night to night.
Metallica are one of the great European festival headliners. The archive has them at Rock Werchter's Festivalpark in 1993, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2014, at Rock am Ring at the Nürburgring in 2003, 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014, and at Rock im Park in Nuremberg in 2003, 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Pinkpop at Megaland in Landgraaf had them in 2008, 2014 and 2022, and Hellfest at Val de Moine in Clisson in 2022 and 2024.
In Portugal they have played Rock in Rio Lisbon at the Parque da Bela Vista in 2004, 2008 and 2012 and the riverside site at Algés in 2009 and 2022; in Spain, Rock in Rio Madrid at Arganda del Rey in 2010 and the Sonisphere festival at Getafe in 2012. The Big Four bill of 2010 and 2011 brought Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax to Sonisphere in Warsaw and, in July 2011, to Amnéville in France.
Metallica were formed in Los Angeles in late 1981 when Danish drummer Lars Ulrich placed an advertisement in a local newspaper and was answered by singer and guitarist James Hetfield. Based in San Francisco for most of their career, they became one of the founding 'big four' of thrash metal with Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. The current line-up is Hetfield, Ulrich, lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo.
Kill 'Em All (1983) and Ride the Lightning (1984) were followed by Master of Puppets (1986), often cited as one of the best metal albums ever made, and …And Justice for All (1988). The self-titled 1991 album, known as the Black Album, took them to a mainstream audience and has sold more than 16 million copies in the US, the best-selling album of the SoundScan era.
Load (1996) and Reload (1997) moved towards hard rock; St. Anger (2003) was documented in the film Some Kind of Monster; and Death Magnetic (2008) returned to a thrash sound. The band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 and in December 2013 played in Antarctica, becoming the first band to perform on all seven continents.
Hardwired… to Self-Destruct (2016) and 72 Seasons (2023) completed eleven studio albums. Metallica have sold more than 163 million albums worldwide, won ten Grammy Awards and had six consecutive studio albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200.

The M72 World Tour changed the way Metallica play stadiums. Most cities got two nights, billed as 'No Repeat Weekends' with a different set list each night, and the stage was moved into the round, with the Snake Pit in the centre.
Europe had three legs. 2023 opened the tour in Amsterdam on 27 and 29 April and continued to Saint-Denis, Hamburg and Gothenburg; 2024 went to Munich, Milan, Austria, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Oslo, Clisson, Warsaw and Madrid; and 2026 opened in Athens on 9 May and played Bucharest, Chorzów, Frankfurt, Zurich, Berlin, Bologna, Budapest and Dublin. Gojira and Knocked Loose or Pantera and Avatar opened the 2026 European shows.
With the 2027 dates all in North America, the Dublin nights of 19 and 21 June 2026 were the last scheduled M72 concerts in the EU and Ireland.
Ireland has been on almost every Metallica era. The archive runs from the SFX Hall on 14 September 1986, less than two weeks before Cliff Burton's death, to the Top Hat Ballroom in 1988, the Point Theatre in 1992, 1996 and 1999, the RDS Arena in 2003, 2004 and 2006, Marlay Park in 2008 and 2009 and Slane Castle on 8 June 2019.
The two Aviva Stadium nights of June 2026 were the band's biggest in Dublin. On 19 June the set opened with 'Creeping Death' and ended with 'Master of Puppets'; on 21 June it opened with 'Whiplash' and closed with 'One' and 'Enter Sandman', with Thin Lizzy's 'Whiskey in the Jar' in the middle.
No country appears more often in Metallica's European archive than Germany. Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, arena runs through Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Leipzig and Mannheim, and stadium nights at the Olympiastadion in Munich and Berlin and Gelsenkirchen's Veltins-Arena have made it the backbone of almost every European tour.
The 2026 leg kept that tradition with two nights at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt on 22 and 24 May and one at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on 30 May 2026. In 2024 the band played two nights at Munich's Olympiastadion, on 24 and 26 May.
Paris has seen Metallica in every kind of room: Le Zénith in 1987 and 1988, the Hippodrome de Vincennes in 1991 and 1993, Bercy in 1990, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2009, three club shows in one night in 2003, the Parc des Princes in 2004 and the AccorHotels Arena in 2017.
The Stade de France in Saint-Denis has hosted them in 2012, 2019 and twice on M72, on 17 and 19 May 2023. The 2026 European leg did not include France, so the 2023 nights remain the band's most recent in the Paris area.
The Iberian peninsula has had Metallica since 1987. Madrid alone appears in almost every era: bullrings and sports halls in the 1980s, the Rayo Vallecano stadium in 1993, the Palacio de Deportes in 2009, IFEMA in 2019 and 2022 and two nights at the Estadio Metropolitano on 12 and 14 July 2024. Barcelona, San Sebastián, Bilbao, Zaragoza, Vigo and Getafe have all hosted the band too.
Lisbon has seen them at the Estádio José Alvalade in 1993, the Restelo in 1996 and 2019, Rock in Rio and the Algés riverside. Neither country was on the 2026 leg, and no Iberian date has been announced for 2027.
Metallica's M72 shows in Europe run to 16 or 17 songs, with a different set each night of a two-night stand. In Frankfurt on 22 May 2026 the first night opened with 'Creeping Death', 'Harvester of Sorrow' and 'Holier Than Thou' and ended with 'Battery', 'Fuel', 'Seek & Destroy' and 'Master of Puppets'.
The second night, 24 May 2026, opened with 'Whiplash' and 'For Whom the Bell Tolls', included 'The Shortest Straw', 'Until It Sleeps', 'Fade to Black', 'Wherever I May Roam', 'The Unforgiven' and 'Blackened', and finished with 'Moth Into Flame', 'One' and 'Enter Sandman'. Songs from 72 Seasons, such as 'Lux Æterna', '72 Seasons', 'If Darkness Had a Son' and 'Screaming Suicide', rotate through both nights, and Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo play a short duet, the 'Doodle'.
The in-the-round stage means there is no bad side: the band move around the circular stage and the Snake Pit fans stand in the centre.
There are no Metallica tickets on sale for Europe in 2027, because the band have not announced any European concerts for that year. The 2027 dates on sale are the Sphere residency in Las Vegas and the North American stadium shows of May and June 2027.
For the M72 European legs, tickets were sold through the official ticketing partners of each stadium and country, with a presale for members of the band's fan club before the general sale. If new European dates are announced, expect a similar process.
Buy only from official sellers and the official resale platform of each country, ignore anyone offering a 'presale code' for European dates that do not exist, and sign up for the alert on this page to be told when Metallica announce new European shows.
