Mick Hucknall and Simply Red spend the summer of 2027 outdoors. Summer Funk '27 opens at the MEO Arena in Lisbon on 16 June 2027, plays two nights at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on 19 and 20 June and the AFAS Dome in Antwerp on 22 June, then moves into squares, parks and festival grounds: Piazza San Marco in Venice on 25 June, Tollwood in Munich on 27 June and more than a dozen German open-air dates through July.
The continental leg ends in Italy, with Rome on 26 July (venue still to be confirmed), the Locus Festival in Bari on 28 July and the Lucca Summer Festival on 30 July. The band then crosses to Britain for a run of racecourses, parks and castle grounds in August, from Chester on 7 August to Taunton on 22 August.
This page sets out the confirmed European dates, the venues, a night-by-night view of the summer and four decades of Simply Red concerts in mainland Europe, from a showcase at Cannes in January 1985 to the 40th anniversary arena tour of autumn 2025.
Summer Funk '27 follows the 40th Anniversary Tour, which filled arenas across Europe in October and November 2025: Hamburg, Leipzig, Berlin, Munich, Zurich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Milan, Florence, Antwerp, three nights at the Ziggo Dome, Lille, Paris and Nantes. The 2027 run is a different kind of tour. Apart from Lisbon, Amsterdam and Antwerp, it is built around summer stages, many of them the same places the band played on its Summer '23 run.
Germany carries most of the dates. After Munich the band plays Nuremberg's Stadionpark on 29 June, the Domplatz in Fulda on 30 June, Aurich on 2 July, the Sauerlandpark in Hemer on 3 July, Hannover on 4 July, the SparkassenPark in Mönchengladbach on 6 July, Kunst!Rasen in Bonn on 7 July, the OWL Arena in Halle (Westfalen) on 9 July and Jazz Open in Stuttgart on 10 July. Wiesbaden (11 July), Regensburg (14 July) and Füssen (21 July) are confirmed with venues still to be announced, and Leipzig's Festwiese follows on 15 July.
Switzerland gets one date, the Moon & Stars festival in Locarno on 19 July. In Italy, Venice comes early in the run and the last three continental shows are Rome, Bari and Lucca. Several of these concerts are part of festival programmes, so the ticket is sold by the festival or the local promoter rather than by a single national outlet.
Tickets went on general sale on 25 September 2026, after presales for fan club members and some partners earlier that week. No support act had been announced as of 5 October 2026.
Built for Expo '98 in Lisbon's Parque das Nações, the MEO Arena is Portugal's largest indoor venue, with room for around 20,000 people.
The Ziggo Dome stands beside the Johan Cruijff ArenA in the south-east of Amsterdam. Holding about 17,000, it is the largest indoor concert hall in the Netherlands.
Antwerp's AFAS Dome, long known as the Sportpaleis, was built for track cycling but now hosts mostly concerts, fairs and shows in the Merksem district.
St Mark's Square is the main public square of Venice, framed by the basilica and the Doge's Palace; open-air concerts there are rare events with a limited capacity.
Tollwood is a twice-yearly cultural festival in Munich, held in the Olympiapark in summer and on the Theresienwiese in winter, with a big concert tent.
The Domplatz is the square in front of Fulda Cathedral, the Baroque former abbey church where Saint Boniface is buried, and is used for summer open-air concerts.
The SparkassenPark in Mönchengladbach was built for field hockey and staged the 2006 Hockey World Cup; in summer it is one of the busiest open-air concert sites in western Germany.
The arena in Halle (Westfalen), opened in 1993 and known for years as the Gerry Weber Stadion, is a tennis venue with a retractable roof and about 12,300 places.

Simply Red were playing the continent almost from the start. The setlist.fm archive has them at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes in January 1985 and at the Arena di Verona that September, months after the release of Picture Book. In 1986, as "Holding Back the Years" became a hit, they toured Italian tent venues, played the Paradiso in Amsterdam, De Doelen in Rotterdam and L'Olympia in Paris on 29 April 1986, and appeared at Torhout and Werchter and at the Montreux Jazz Festival that July.
The Men and Women tour of 1987 went through Italian sports halls, Nice, Lyon, Toulouse, the Zénith in Paris on 13 June, Antwerp, the Cirque Royal in Brussels and two nights at Rotterdam Ahoy. In late 1988 the band toured Spain, from Zaragoza and Bilbao to two nights at the Palau dels Esports in Barcelona, Madrid and Seville, with a stop in Cascais. After A New Flame they played Bercy in Paris on 20 February 1990 and Forest National in Brussels the next night.
The Stars Tour of 1992 was their biggest European run of the period: two nights at the Hallenstadion in Zurich, Forest National, Rotterdam Ahoy, two nights at the Zénith in Paris, Toulouse, Barcelona, Madrid, Marseille, Grenoble and a long Italian leg from Turin to Naples, Florence and the Forum di Assago. The Life Tour of 1995 and 1996 added the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Geneva and Rome, and the Spirit of Life Tour of 2000 reached Lisbon's Pavilhão Atlântico on 25 March 2000. That arena, built for Expo '98, is today's MEO Arena, where Summer Funk '27 begins.
The Home Tour of 2003 produced two of their most unusual European nights: a show in Milan's Piazza del Duomo on 25 May 2003 and a concert on the Place de la République in Paris on 21 June 2003. It also introduced summer squares such as Piazza Napoleone in Lucca, where Simply Red returned in 2010, 2016 and 2023. The Greatest Hits Tour of 2009 and the Farewell tour of 2010 were meant to close the story, ending in Europe with the Gelredome in Arnhem and the Sportpaleis in Antwerp in December 2010.
The band re-formed for the Big Love Tour in 2015, which included two nights at the Ziggo Dome in November 2015 and summer dates in 2016 at Werchter, Rotterdam, Lucca, Mönchengladbach and the Olympiastadion in Munich. In October 2017 they played three nights at the Ziggo Dome for Symphonica in Rosso, later released as a live album. The Blue Eyed Soul arena tour reached Spain, Paris, Amsterdam, a long German leg and Italy in 2022.
The Summer '23 tour is the template for 2027: the Théâtre Antique de Fourvière in Lyon, the Arènes de Nîmes, Montreux, Lucca, the Zitadelle Spandau in Berlin, the SparkassenPark in Mönchengladbach on 12 July 2023, Kunst!Rasen in Bonn on 14 July, Regensburg on 20 July, the Domplatz in Fulda on 21 July and Füssen on 28 July 2023. Most recently, the 40th Anniversary Tour played the 22 arena dates listed in the archive on the continent between 17 October and 20 November 2025.
The table below lists 276 documented European concerts by Simply Red between 1985 and 2025, with the most shows in Amsterdam (17), Paris (16), Zurich (12), Rotterdam (11), Rome (10), Montreux (9). It is not exhaustive: it only includes documented shows.

Concert data: setlist.fm
Across the 15 most recent documented European concerts with a full song list (25 October 2025 to 20 November 2025), these are the songs that came up most often. Titles only — set lists change from night to night.
Festival grounds have always been part of the band's European summers. The archive lists Rock Werchter in 1986, 2006, 2016 and 2023, Torhout in 1986, the Montreux Jazz Festival many times between 1986 and 2023, Paléo at Nyon in 1999, the Summerdays festival at Arbon in 2016 and a long list of Italian summer festivals.
In 2027 the festival dates are Jazz Open in Stuttgart (10 July), Moon & Stars in Locarno (19 July), the Locus Festival in Bari (28 July) and the Lucca Summer Festival (30 July). Tollwood in Munich (27 June) is also a festival, held in the Olympiapark in summer.
Simply Red formed in Manchester in 1985 around the singer and songwriter Mick Hucknall, who had previously fronted the punk group the Frantic Elevators. Their first single, a cover of "Money's Too Tight (to Mention)", was a hit in the UK and Ireland and reached the top five in Italy, an early sign of how strong the band would be on the continent.
"Holding Back the Years", a re-recording of a Frantic Elevators song, reached number one in the United States in 1986, and the cover of "If You Don't Know Me by Now" did the same in 1989. Stars, released in 1991, became the best-selling album in Europe and the UK for two years running. "Fairground" gave the band its only UK number one single in 1995.
From 1996 Simply Red was essentially Hucknall with a changing group of musicians, with the saxophonist Ian Kirkham as the constant. The band left its major label in 2000 and released later albums such as Home (2003) and Stay (2007) on its own label. Hucknall retired the name after a farewell tour that ended in December 2010.
The band returned in 2015 with Big Love and a 30th anniversary tour, and has released Blue Eyed Soul (2019) and Time (2023) since. All thirteen studio albums reached the UK top ten, and the band has sold more than 50 million albums. In 2025 they marked their 40th anniversary with a world tour.

No country gets more of Summer Funk '27 than Germany, with fifteen of the 22 continental dates. Many are in mid-sized towns rather than the big arena cities: Fulda, Aurich, Hemer, Halle (Westfalen), Regensburg and Füssen are all on the list, which means a short trip for fans who would normally travel to Cologne or Munich.
Several of these places hosted the band two summers ago. In July 2023 Simply Red played the SparkassenPark in Mönchengladbach, Kunst!Rasen in Bonn, the Domplatz in Fulda, Regensburg and Füssen, and all five return in 2027. The SparkassenPark had already seen them on the Big Love Tour in July 2016.
Germany has also been the core of the band's recent arena tours. The 2022 Blue Eyed Soul tour played Hamburg, Frankfurt, Hanover, Dortmund, Cologne, Mannheim, Berlin, Stuttgart, Leipzig and Munich, and the 2025 anniversary tour covered much of the same ground.
The Netherlands has been one of Simply Red's most loyal markets since the Paradiso show of February 1986. The Ziggo Dome has become their Dutch home: two nights in 2015, three nights of Symphonica in Rosso in October 2017, which became the live album Symphonica in Rosso – Live at Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam, two nights in 2022 and three more in November 2025.
Summer Funk '27 returns there on 19 and 20 June 2027, one of only three indoor arena stops on the continental leg. Before the Ziggo Dome, the band's regular Dutch venue was Rotterdam Ahoy, where they played on almost every tour between 1987 and 2003.
Italy took to Simply Red early. The band played Sanremo in 1987, 1989 and 1996, toured Italian sports halls throughout the late 1980s and returned almost every summer of the 2000s to piazzas and amphitheatres. Lucca's Piazza Napoleone, home of the Lucca Summer Festival, has hosted them in 2003, 2010, 2016 and 2023.
The Italian part of the 2027 tour starts with one of the most unusual dates in the band's history, Piazza San Marco in Venice on 25 June. It then closes the continental leg with Rome on 26 July, Bari's Locus Festival on 28 July and Lucca on 30 July.
The tour opens in Lisbon on 16 June 2027. The MEO Arena was the Pavilhão Atlântico when Simply Red first played there in March 2000, and they returned in September 2006. Portugal has otherwise seen the band mostly in summer, at Aveiro in 2003 and Albufeira in 2008.
Antwerp's AFAS Dome, the old Sportpaleis, follows on 22 June. The band played there in 1989, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2015, 2022 and November 2025, which makes it one of their most visited arenas in Europe.
The 40th Anniversary Tour shows in late 2025 ran to about 20 songs. At the Zénith in Nantes on 20 November 2025, the last continental date, the set opened with "Sad Old Red" and "Jericho" and ran through "Money's Too Tight (To Mention)", "The Right Thing", "A New Flame", "It's Only Love", "You've Got It", "Enough", "If You Don't Know Me by Now", "For Your Babies", "Stars", "Thrill Me", "Say You Love Me", "The Air That I Breathe" and "You Make Me Feel Brand New", before a closing run of "Fake", "Sunrise", "Fairground", "Something Got Me Started" and "Holding Back the Years".
Across the whole archive, "Holding Back the Years", "Something Got Me Started", "Money's Too Tight (To Mention)", "Stars" and "Fairground" are the songs the band has played most often in mainland Europe. Summer festival sets can be a little shorter than arena shows, and the 2027 set list has not been published.
Tickets for Summer Funk '27 have been on general sale since 25 September 2026, through the official ticketing outlets in each country. For the festival dates (Tollwood, Jazz Open, Moon & Stars, Locus and Lucca Summer Festival), buy from the festival or its appointed outlet; some of them sell standing and seated areas separately.
There is no public Simply Red presale code to buy or share. Codes advertised on social media are not genuine. If a date sells out, use the official resale service of the country concerned rather than an unofficial reseller, and check the venue name and date carefully, since several German towns are hosting the band in the same fortnight.
Prices are set by each promoter and vary between arena, piazza and festival dates. The alert buttons on this page will tell you when the venues for Wiesbaden, Regensburg, Füssen and Rome are announced.
